Welcome Back To Flamingo

1375 November 5, 2026 Welcome Back To Flamingo

We each wanted to get a good walk in before moving on.

As we were leaving, from the dump station, we saw this huge snapping turtle.

We were on the road and headed east to Krome Avenue and then south.  We made a stop for diesel and then another stop at Robert Is Here.  We chose papaya, mangoes, mamey, zucchini, and key lime olive oil.

We also split a mango milkshake.  If I am going to have a treat I want it to be fabulous…this ½ milkshake was worth every slurp!

We arrived at the National Park and showed our Senior Lifetime Pass.  This saved us a $35.00 admission fee!

We were making our way down the Main Park Road when a great white egret launched itself in front of the RV.  With swamp on both side of the roadway, there was no way to swerve to avoid the bird.  Tim did his best and pulled over as soon as he was able to check the RV…no flying feathers and no gore.  We don’t think that we hit it and that the bird escaped unscathed.  That is our best guess.

We stopped at Parotis Pond.

We arrived at Flamingo Campground in early afternoon.

Later, we hopped on bikes and did a loop around to Florida Bay.

We took the Guy Bradley Trail to the new Visitor Center.  We climbed to the balcony and sat for a while.

We biked to the marina and saw a croc floating in the water but no alligators or manatees.

When a male osprey is trying to attract a mate, he builds a nest. The more substantial the nest, the better his chances. I am not a female osprey but I do believe that this nest is a prize winner!

A plover.

We made our way back to our site and packed a picnic dinner. We drove the Jeep to West Lake and enjoyed our meal with the company of this snowy egret.

The sunset was glorious!
