USS Yorktown

1354 October 15, 2026 USS Yorktown

As usual, we started the day with exercise.

We spent a lot of time planning ahead and making some reservations for the upcoming weeks.  I also was on the phone for a couple of hours with CareFirst and Lifebridge Health trying to get resolution with a hospital bill…infuriating!!!

Tim found a 5-star Pakistani restaurant, Malika, and we went there for a late lunch.  Tim tried the spicy Chicken Tikka Masala and I had the Butter Chicken.  The food was outstanding.

After our meal, we drove to Patriot Point to see the aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown.  Commissioned in 1943, this vessel was in service from WW2 until the Vietnam War.  This historic ship was vast; its scope enormous.  Can you imagine climbing into one of these small planes, strapping yourself in, launching off the flight deck and over miles of ocean, completing your life-or-death mission for you and your wingman or the people below, and returning to the carrier?  What bravery and patriotism these young men possessed; these men who defended freedom and performed their duty in honor of their country.
